Angelo Gaudino, age 77, founder of OBYL, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, December 11, 2020. Many of us knew him as Papa, Pops and Coach because he was the "hero" who brought joy to so many over the years through the Old Brooklyn Youth League (OBYL). Thank you Pops.
Services will be held December 14 from 6-8 pm and December 15 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Tomon & Sons Funeral Home on Pearl Rd. in Cleveland. We hope to see you there.
For Immediate Release:
With heavy hearts, the Old Brooklyn Youth League Board of Directors announces the following decision:
After careful consideration, an assessment of our current conditions, OBYL is suspending, cancelling our 2020 season. OBYL has been operating a co-ed youth summer softball program for Old Brooklyn children ages 4 to 18 years for 43 years. This decision was not an easy one; however realistic.
Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 and low enrollment, 2020 had a different plan for all of us. We are confident in our decision that the health risks of playing the season outweigh the reward for our players and their families. There are so many unknown factors we were not sure, when our season would begin. If you did register your child for the 2020 season, you will be receiving a refund in the next few weeks.
We hope you understand our decision and share our sentiment that this is the best decision for our OBYL as a whole. Be well, stay healthy, and enjoy your time together. We cannot wait to see you again as we prepare for our 2021 season.
